Sometimes when a man leaves the comfortable surroundings of his own kiez, he might notice that Berlin is actually a very big city.

Wintersun wanted to start a crowdfunding campaign to make an album and to build a professional studio. Many people were laughing, including me. I was thinking why should I spend any money to support their goals. Shouldn’t an artist just create art without worrying too much about the commercial success?

I don’t remember when exactly I heard Porcupine Tree for the first time. It was probably in 2003 and they soon became my all-time favourite band. Porcupine Tree are still holding the number one position on my Last.fm chart. The band is currently on hiatus, but the frontman Steven Wilson keeps making wonderful music.

Autumn 1999, a small town somewhere in Central Finland. I was tired and under the weather. My friend introduced me to Radiohead and played OK Computer. The others kept chatting in the kitchen and drinking beer, but I was laying down and focusing on the music. I think it was my first real connection to post rock and its daydreaming soundscapes.

In 2009 or 2010 I saw Oranssi Pazuzu for the first time at Nosturi in Helsinki, Finland. I didn’t really know their music back then. To be honest, I wasn’t too impressed. It was a quiet night. There were less than 50 people watching the show.
